Town seeks artists for first-ever newcomers art exhibition at Town Hall

To celebrate the creative talents of the diverse community in Oakville, the town is seeking artists to participate in the first-ever Newcomers Art Exhibition at Town Hall from February 18 to April 1, 2011.

The exhibition is open to established and emerging artists who live in Oakville and arrived in Canada in the past 10 years. Artists can submit a variety of works representing classical and contemporary fine art, traditional craft and folk art. There is no entrance fee for this exhibition.

“We recognize that new Canadian artists face unique challenges getting their foot in the door,” said Claire Loughheed, senior manager of Cultural Services. “This exhibition was developed to provide an opportunity for artists to add exhibition experience to their resumes and sell their work in their new country.”

The exhibition is presented in partnership with ArtWorks Oakville Association and the Halton Multicultural Council.

To register, artists must submit a completed entry form by February 4, 2011. Forms can be downloaded on the Culture Lives Here web page or are available at Town Hall, libraries, and recreation centres throughout Oakville.

To receive a copy of the entry form, contact Lyne Mainville at lmainville@oakville.ca or 905-845-6601, ext. 5004.
