Town of Oakville recognized for 2014 Culture Days program

Town makes three “Top 10” lists!

The Town of Oakville participated in the Canada-wide Culture Days celebration on Saturday, September 27 and earned top marks in three categories:

Second in Ontario’s Top 10 Regions
Fourth in Ontario’s Top 10 Cities
Fifth in Canada’s Top 10 Regional (similarly sized municipalities)

“On behalf of Council, I’d like to congratulate everyone involved in organizing such a successful and widely recognized event,” Mayor Rob Burton said. “Oakville Culture Days is a great opportunity for residents to immerse themselves and learn more about our vibrant arts and culture community.”

Rankings were based on the number of activities held in each community. Oakville’s Culture Days at Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre (QEPCCC) featured 58 activities, including theatre performances, ceramic and woodshop workshops, exhibitions and more.

Thanks to a partnership with the Oakville Arts Council and QEPCCC’s active members, participants also had the opportunity to conduct the Oakville Symphony and learn how to play the steel pan with the Canadian Caribbean Association.

Culture Days is a grassroots, nation-wide movement that aims to raise awareness, participation and engagement in the arts and cultural life of Canadian communities. Oakville joined with 825 communities across Canada to celebrate culture.
