Town appoints Commissioner Gord Lalonde as treasurer

Lynn Horlor and Nancy Sully appointed as deputy treasurers

February 18, 2010 — For Immediate Release
Town Council announced today that Gord Lalonde, the town’s current commissioner of corporate services, has been appointed treasurer. Council also appointed two of the town’s current senior managers, Lynn Horlor, director, Financial Operations and Nancy Sully, director, Financial Planning, as deputy treasurers for the town. Council approved the appointments and passed the ratifying by-law at its meeting this week.

“This Council has implemented significant financial reforms over the past four years to enhance accountability to our taxpayers including performance-based, program-based budgeting (PB2) and new development charges that reflect the true costs of growth,” Mayor Rob Burton said. “Mr. Lalonde has the experience and vision to ensure the town achieves Council’s short-term and long-term financial objectives as we deal with increased financial demands and pressures.”

As treasurer, Mr. Lalonde takes on legal responsibility for handling all the financial affairs of the Town of Oakville on behalf of Town Council. Lynn Horlor, director, Financial Operations, takes on primary responsibility for day-to-day management of the town’s financial assets and controls. Nancy Sully, director, Financial Planning, will be responsible for annual and long-term budgeting and planning to ensure the corporation’s financial stability.

These changes have allowed the town to eliminate the position of director of finance and town treasurer while still maintaining the same strong commitment to financial accountability and service.

“Over the last six months we have seen how well this alignment of responsibilities has operated at the town while dealing with very challenging economic conditions,” noted town CAO Ray Green. “I have no doubt that Gord, Nancy and Lynn will provide Council with the financial leadership needed to meet the challenges ahead.”
