Town accepting applications for election officials

The Town of Oakville is now accepting applications for assistant deputy returning officers and greeters to work this year’s municipal election on October 25, 2010. Several hundred election officials will be hired by September 2010.

“Working in the municipal election is the perfect opportunity for anyone wanting to learn more about their municipal government — the level of government closest to citizens,” said Town Clerk Cathie Best. “It takes hundreds of interested individuals to ensure a well-run election and we appreciate the support of community members who submit their applications to work with us on voting day.”

To be eligible for these positions, applicants must complete an application form, take a brief written exam and attend an interview. Job descriptions, application forms and a practice exam are available on the elections employment webpage, or from the Clerk’s department on the second floor of Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Road.

Completed application forms must be submitted online or returned to the Clerk’s department. All applicants will be required to complete a brief written test and oral interview, which will be administered Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays between 9 and 11 a.m., beginning Tuesday, June 8 through Friday, September 3, 2010. Please call 905-845-6601, ext. 3010 to schedule a time. Alternative times may be available upon request.

Please note that spouses and children of candidates are not eligible to submit applications.
