Tour of Lights party brings holiday spirit to Oakville seniors

Thursday, December 11, 2014 – for immediate release

Tour of Lights party brings holiday spirit to Oakville seniors

The Town of Oakville and many generous volunteers hosted the 45th annual Tour of Lights party last night to give 160 Oakville seniors an opportunity to take in the holiday light displays throughout town.

“This annual event for seniors is a great example of our community coming together to make the season brighter for many frail and elderly residents,” said Nina de Vaal, director of recreation and culture for the Town of Oakville. “Thank you to the many volunteers who donated their time to share the holiday spirit with others.”

This year’s event began with a refreshment stop and entertainment at Town Hall followed by a tour of Oakville’s brightest holiday light displays led by off-duty Oakville Transit drivers and limousine drivers from Ward’s Funeral Home.

The popular annual event is offered free for seniors, many of whom would be unable to see the holiday lights on their own.

Visit the seniors services page for more information about the town’s services and programs for seniors.

Seniors get in the spirit for 44th Annual Tour of Lights Party

Tickets available at all Town of Oakville senior centres prior to event

Geared towards Oakville seniors who may not have the opportunity to see the holiday lights first-hand, the Town of Oakville and dozens of generous volunteers will host the 44th annual Seniors Tour of Lights Party on Tuesday, December 10, 2013, starting at 6:45 p.m. Eligible Oakville seniors can pick up their complimentary tour ticket at any Town of Oakville senior centre prior to the event.

Volunteer off-duty Oakville Transit drivers and limousine drivers from Ward Funeral Home will escort 175 seniors to take in thousands of beautiful lights on display throughout town. To ensure a bright and joyful tour, Oakville residents are encouraged to turn on their holiday lights a little earlier to enhance the show. As one of the tour stops, seniors will be greeted at Town Hall for refreshments and entertainment.

Oakville seniors are reminded that tickets are required to participate in the event. Tickets are available at Sir John Colborne Seniors Centre, Oakville Seniors’ Centre, Iroquois Ridge Older Adults Centre and Queen Elizabeth Park Older Adult Centre. For details about Oakville’s annual Tour of Lights Party, please call the Oakville Seniors Centre at 905-815-5966 or the Sir John Colborne Seniors Centre at 905-815-5960.
