Registration for health protection air quality by-law reporting workshops now open

Section 4 of by-law explained at workshops

Facilities that fit under Section 4 of the Town of Oakville’s Health Protection Air Quality By-law 2010-035 are encouraged to register for one of the three upcoming workshops: February 24, March 31 or April 14.

These workshops will review the emission-reporting process to ensure compliance with Section 4 of the town’s by-law. Each of the workshops will take place at Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Road from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. To register for a workshop, email healthprotection@oakville.ca

Under the town’s health protection air quality by-law, all facilities that fit under Section 4, including all facilities with provincial Certificates of Approval (Air) and major emitters, are required to submit a report to the town on their fine particulate matter (PM) and health-risk air pollutant emissions by May 1, 2011. Facilities that are not major emitters and do not have a Certificate of Approval for air emissions have until September 2012 to comply with the by-law’s Section 4 reporting requirements.

The compliance date for existing major emitter approvals under Section 6 of the by-law has been extended to September 2012. The compliance date for proposed major emitter approvals under Section 5 of the by-law remains unchanged as February 1, 2010.

The purpose of the by-law is to protect the health of Oakville residents from the negative effects of fine PM by collecting information on emissions from facilities in Oakville and requiring major emitters to obtain approval of their emissions from the town.

Anyone with questions or concerns regarding the by-law can contact Jeffrey Lee at 905-845-6601, ext. 3149 or by email at healthprotection@oakville.ca
