OREA Government Relations Reflects on National Customer Service Week

This week OREA is participating in National Customer Service Week. Reflecting on this year’s theme, “Think Service”, OREA is working to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to service excellence. But what does that mean exactly for OREA Government Relations?

OREA’s Government Relations Department is committed to serving our members by ensuring their voice is heard at the provincial legislature. Along with our Government Relations Committee, OREA staff work to build strong relationships with all Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs), the civil service and other real estate stakeholders.

On a typical day we scan the news for issues that relate to our industry, monitor policy developments and political party positions and try to remain current on legislation and regulations that affect REALTORS®. Additionally, we take a proactive approach to important REALTOR® issues by proposing ideas to the government of the day, such as the creation of a marijuana grow operation registry to protect home owners.

Every year, OREA Government Relations is proud to organize our Political Affairs Conference in Toronto. This is great opportunity to bring REALTORS® from across the province together to share their expertise and become better advocates for our members. The conference affords us the opportunity to remind MPPs of the value of REALTORS® and homeownership to Ontario. This year our conference will be held at the Courtyard Marriott in downtown Toronto on November 26-28th.

At any given moment, OREA’s government relations department has numerous issues on the go. To name a few, we are currently working on preventing the spread of a municipal land transfer tax across Ontario, creating a provincial marijuana grow operation/clandestine lab registry to protect homeowners, and encouraging the government to allow real estate salespeople to incorporate.

OREA Government Relations recognizes the value of REALTORS® and their commitment to our communities, we are proud to represent you and ensure your voice is heard at Queen’s Park.
