Oakville’s 2012 Annual Report highlights achievements and strong financial position

The Town of Oakville released its interactive 2012 Annual Report today outlining the town’s fiscal strength and key achievements in meeting the needs of the community.

“Our annual report is a comprehensive look at our work in the last year towards realizing our vision of creating Canada’s most livable town. Thanks to disciplined spending and solid financial planning, Oakville is in a strong and stable position,” Mayor Rob Burton said. “We are always challenging the status quo. We control growth, debt and taxes to just what fits environmentally and economically. Our resulting financial strength helps support our goals to create new community centres, improve public engagement and attract new businesses,”

The town’s Consolidated Financial Statements are audited by KPMG who have confirmed they present fairly the town’s strong financial position.

The annual report also describes the town’s major accomplishments in 2012 such as opening Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre; unveiling the town’s newly revamped website Oakville.ca; increasing its social media presence on Facebook and Twitter to enhance the way residents can interact with the town; and hosting a Business Leaders Forum with Oakville’s 25 largest private sector employers to gain insight on ways to retain businesses and attract new investment. The town also continued to implement the plans and initiatives set out in the town’s Vision 2057 including launching the Downtown Oakville Heritage Conservation Study and approving the Parks, Recreation and Library Facilities Master Plan (PRLFMP) and the innovative Transportation Master Plan known as Switching Gears.

The audited financial statements are presented in accordance with the Canadian Public Sector Accounting Standards, and prescribed policies issued by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. An annual report with its audited Consolidated Financial Statement presents the financial position of the town and its consolidated entities for the 2012 fiscal year with its achievements.
