Oakville hosts Aging at Home information fair for seniors and families of seniors

The Town of Oakville is hosting an information fair on Saturday, September 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sir John Colborne Recreation Centre for Seniors located at 1565 Old Lakeshore Road in Oakville.

Organized by Oakville’s Seniors’ Advisory Committee, the fair will educate seniors about independent living and the many services that are available to those who choose to age in their own private home.

Over 40 exhibitors and vendors will be on site with information about home support programs, transportation services, and opportunities to enhance personal health and safety. Experts representing government services, service agencies and local businesses will also be on hand to answer questions.

“This information fair is a one-stop shop where people can walk around, pick up brochures and speak face-to-face with representatives from various agencies,” said Nina deVaal, director of Recreation and Culture for the Town of Oakville. “Whether you’re a senior or friend or family of a senior, this fair promises to have the most current information available.”

This year’s fair will also feature a computer lab with tutorials on how to access online services and demonstrations on the latest technology for aging at home.

Admission to the fair is free with door prizes and giveaways planned throughout the day. The first 250 attendees will receive a free reusable bag from Whole Foods Market so arrive early. Drinks and sandwiches will be available for purchase. For more information, contact the Sir John Colborne Recreation Centre for Seniors at 905-815-5960.
