Oakville gets a clean sweep

Mayor Rob Burton and over 300 students from St. James Catholic Elementary School in Oakville kicked off Oakville Clean Sweep on Friday with the 20-Minute Makeover, a GTA-wide litter cleanup program.

“It is amazing how much can be done in just 20 minutes to help keep Oakville beautiful,” Mayor Rob Burton said. “On behalf of Council, I would like to thank all the students, residents and businesses that took time out of their day to clean up our roadways and green spaces.”

Over 6,000 people participated in this year’s 20-Minute Makeover throughout Oakville.

Exchanging snowplows and shovels for street sweepers and rakes, Oakville town staff has hit the streets for spring-cleaning. Street sweepers and the mini vacs are picking up debris along roadways and sidewalks. Recycling and litter containers are available throughout the town in parks, business areas and sports fields. The loose-leaf collection program is set to run from April 26 to May 6. Pick up dates can be foun on the spring loose-leaf collection  page.

Over the next couple of months, parks staff will be busy cleaning out and planting the medians and boulevard as part of the Oakville Blooms program. Sponsorship information for these areas is available on the Oakville Blooms page.
