March is Nutrition Month – share your healthy recipe and win

March 3, 2010 – For immediate release
The Town of Oakville is celebrating March is Nutrition Month with the return of the Make Your Move Healthy Recipe contest. Oakville residents are invited to submit their favourite healthy recipes for a chance to participate in a cook-off at Whole Foods Market and win great prizes.

“We’re really excited about bringing back this contest as a way to promote balance nutrition and healthy eating for active lifestyles,” said Nina de Vaal, director of Recreation and Culture for the Town of Oakville. “It’s a fun way to get the whole family involved in making healthy meal choices.”

The top three recipes selected in each category will be invited to attend a cook-off hosted by Whole Foods Market Oakville on Sunday, May 2, from 2-4 p.m.

Gift certificates from the contest sponsors will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners in each of the three food categories (snacks, lunches and main courses/meals). The grand prize champion will also have their recipe sold in the prepared foods department at Whole Foods Market Oakville, with proceeds being donated to the local food bank.

Get out your apron and chef hat and get cooking! The Make Your Move recipe contest is open to all Oakville residents, eight years and older. Recipes can be completed online or submitted by email to makeyourmove@oakville.ca. Contest closes Wednesday, March 31 at 11:59 p.m. For contest details and menu samples visit the Make Your Move web page.

The Make Your Move Healthy Recipe Contest is proudly sponsored by Whole Foods Market Oakville, Paradiso Restaurant, Julia’s Ristorante and Ritorno’s Restaurant.

Make Your Move is the Town of Oakville’s public education and awareness program that promotes the benefits of healthy, active lifestyles and encourages residents to become more active through various sport and recreational activities.
