Space is limited, so register today!

If your child has never had the chance to lace up a pair of skates to play our national sport, now they can — for free! The Town of Oakville is offering boys and girls aged five to 12 the opportunity to learn about the game of hockey as part of RBC Play Hockey Day for Kids on Sunday, April 3 at Oakville’s state-of-the-art Sixteen Mile Sports Complex.

As part of the planned hockey try-it events, Town of Oakville trained instructors will walk participants through skills, drills and entertaining activities — both on and off the ice.  Previous hockey experience is not required.

“Playing hockey on the ice for the first time can be intimidating,” said Nina de Vaal, director of Recreation and Culture for the Town of Oakville. “Not only will this program encourage kids to get active in a fun setting, but it will build confidence and hopefully a love for the game.”

RBC Play Hockey Day for Kids event times:

Age 5 and 6: 12:30–3 p.m.
Age 7 and 8: 12:30–3 p.m.
Age 9 and 10: 1:30–4:45 p.m.
Age 11 and 12: 2:15–4:45 p.m.

Registration forms are available on the arenas page and can be emailed to orhl@oakville.ca, faxed to 905-815-6178 or dropped off in-person at Town Hall, Recreation and Culture department, 1225 Trafalgar Road or Sixteen Mile Sports Complex, 3070 Neyagawa Boulevard. Spaces are limited so register today! Deadline to register is Thursday, March 31, 2011.

Participants are required to bring a helmet, stick and skates. Full equipment is not necessary. Drinks and healthy snacks will be provided. For more information please call 905-845-6601, ext. 7204.

Oakville’s RBC Play Hockey Day for Kids was made possible through the RBC Play Hockey grants program which focuses on growing the game of hockey from the grassroots level. Grants are awarded to community hockey organizations, sports associations and hockey-minded individuals with great ideas to grow the game and keep hockey vital.
