Heat up your winter in Hamilton with Winterfest

Hamilton’s annual celebration of all things winter kicks off this Saturday, Feb. 4th with the 34th Annual Winterfest.  The week-long City-sponsored celebration includes special events throughout the city at recreation centres, area-attractions, museums and restaurants.  It runs until Feb. 11th.

The fun starts Saturday with a launch event at Pier-8 skating rink, Hamilton’s new outdoor waterfront rink, from 1 to 3:30 p.m.  Bring your skates or rent a pair at the skating rink where visitors will enjoy ice-sculptures, musical entertainment, fire eaters, free hot dogs, hot chocolate and much more! Best of all, admission is free.

Other Winterfest events Saturday include wagon rides and a BBQ at Gage Park, and a performance by the Jim Cuddy Band with Doug Paisley at Hamilton Place. Start your Sunday off right with a hearty pancake breakfast at  Rosedale Arena and spend your afternoon at the Gourley Park Winterfest and take in an obstacle course, toboggan tows, horse and wagon rides and many more family friendly events. Again, admission is free.

All this during the opening weekend alone. There’s still a week’s worth of great family friendly, outdoor and cultural activities to enjoy. Highlights include Hamilton’s popular annual Soupfest in support of Living Rock; Valentine’s Day themed fun at the Children’s museum; Jazz performances at Theatre Ancaster; concerts by everyone from Kathleen Edwards, Megadeath and the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra and much much more.

Selected restaurants across the city are also participating in Sweet Taste of Winter, a program that offers diners an opportunity to enjoy special menus and discounts.
