Brantford claims the hometown of many influential past residents such as Alexander Graham Bell the inventor of the telephone, Hockey Hall of Fame legend Wayne Gretzky, comedian Phil Hartman, and Group of Seven member Lawren Harris. The city was named after Jospeh Brant a Mohawk leader.
In 2011 the population of Brantford was 93,650. The Brantford Expositor has been the local newspaper since 1852.
