All town-run programs cancelled until 3 p.m. on February 2 due to severe weather warnings

Oakville Transit users should expect significant service delays

With the severe weather warnings issued for tomorrow, the Town of Oakville will be cancelling all scheduled town-run programs on Wednesday, February 2, 2011, until 3 p.m. All recreational facilities will remain open for drop-in use and scheduled rentals. Essential services at Town Hall and off-site locations will continue as scheduled.

All programs beginning after 3 p.m. are expected to run as scheduled. Please visit the home page for the most recent information on town closures and program cancellations.

According to Environment Canada’s official weather warning, dangerous winter weather conditions are imminent or occurring in Halton region. Residents can expect heavy snow and high winds. View Environment Canada’s weather conditions for the Oakville area.

When snow begins to accumulate, primary and secondary roads are cleared first to ensure easy access for emergency service vehicles and public transit. Residential streets are plowed only after snow accumulates in excess of 10 centimetres.

Streets are to be cleared within 24 hours after the end of the storm. Heavy snowfalls can sometimes extend this period longer than 24 hours. Sidewalks are cleared only after snow accumulates in excess of five centimetres, and only after roads are cleared.

Residents are reminded not to park their vehicles on streets or at town facility parking lots to allow for snow clearing. For more information on snow removal visit the snow clearing page or call the snow information line at 905-815-5999.

Oakville Transit, fire and essential services will remain in operation. Residents are advised that significant delays should be expected for transit services. Visit the Oakville Transit website for the latest service updates.

All town facilities, programs and services are expected to return to their regular schedule after 3 p.m. on Wednesday, February 2, 2011.
